Cứ vào Chúa Nhật thứ I mùa Chay thì chúng ta lại được nghe bài Tin Mừng Chúa Giêsu vào trong hoang địa để chịu cám dỗ. Sự kiện này đều được cả ba thánh sử Mát-thêu, Mác-cô và Luca ghi lại trong Phúc Âm.

Thế nhưng hai thánh sử Mát-thêu và Lu-ca thì tường thuật rất chi tiết về ba cơn cám dỗ của Chúa Giêsu: Cám dỗ về miếng ăn, về địa vị chức quyền, về nhân đức khiêm nhường. Còn thánh Mác-cô thì lại viết rất sơ sài. Tuy vậy, khi đọc kỹ một chút, bạn sẽ thấy, cả ba thánh Sử đều nói đến một chi tiết rất thú vị, đó là Chúa Giêsu không đi vào hoang địa một mình, nhưng mà Ngài đi cùng với Chúa Thánh Thần.

• Bấy giờ Đức Giê-su được Thần Khí dẫn vào hoang địa, để chịu quỷ cám dỗ (Mt 4:1)
• Suốt bốn mươi ngày, Người được Thánh Thần dẫn đi trong hoang địa và chịu quỷ cám dỗ (Lc 4:1-2).
• Thần Khí liền đẩy Người vào hoang địa. Người ở trong hoang địa bốn mươi ngày, chịu Xa-tan cám dỗ, sống giữa loài dã thú, và có các thiên sứ hầu hạ Người” (Mc 1:12-13).

Bạn thân mến, nếu Đức Giêsu mà còn cần đến sự trợ giúp của Chúa Thánh Thần khi Ngài bị Xa-tan cám dỗ như vậy, thì tôi và bạn còn cần đến sự trợ giúp của Chúa Thánh Thần biết là chừng nào? Bạn đồng ý không?

Each year, the Gospel for the First Sunday of Lent describes the familiar scene of Jesus being led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. This scene is recorded by all three Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, which demonstrates its importance.

However, the Gospels of Matthew and Luke describe the three temptations by recounting the details of the challenges Satan presented to test and tempt Jesus: these temptations were those of bread, power, and virtue of humility. Mark’s account is very brief, merely noting the event. Although the narrative is distinctive, when you try and read the passage carefully, you will see that all three of the Synoptics recounted a unique element: Jesus did not go into the wilderness alone; he walked with the Holy Spirit.

• Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil (Mt 4:1).
• At once, the Spirit drove him out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him” (Mk 1:12-13).
• The Spirit led Jesus into the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil (Lk 4:1-2).

My dear friends, while it was necessary for Jesus to depend on the Holy Spirit when the devil tempted him, thus we as His children would need the Holy Spirit as a helper and an advocate. Don’t you agree?
