Phúc Âm thuật lại rằng, trong ba năm rao giảng tại Galilê, Chúa Giê-su đã làm ơn làm phước, và giúp đỡ cho rất nhiều người.

• Ngài cho người mù xem thấy, kẻ què được đi, người cùi được sạch, kẻ điếc được nghe, người chết sống lại …làm phép lạ hóa bánh ra nhiều cho năm ngàn người ăn, không kể đàn bà và trẻ con (Mt 11:5; 14:21).
• Ngài ban cho ông Giu-đa quyền trừ quỷ, chữa bệnh, Ngài tin tưởng và giao cho ông nhiệm vụ làm thủ quỹ, quản lý tất cả tài chánh của nhóm Mười Hai (Ga 13:29).
• Ngài lo lắng cho các ông từng miếng ăn giấc ngủ: “Anh em hãy lánh riêng ra đến một nơi thanh vắng mà nghỉ ngơi đôi chút” (Mc 6:31).
• Ngài giao cho ông Phê-rô một chức vụ rất cao trọng: “Thầy sẽ trao cho anh chìa khoá Nước Trời: dưới đất, anh cầm buộc điều gì, trên trời cũng sẽ cầm buộc như vậy; dưới đất, anh tháo cởi điều gì, trên trời cũng sẽ tháo cởi như vậy” (Mt 16:19).

Vậy mà khi Chúa Giê-su bị quân lính bắt thì…

The Gospel reveals to us that, during His three years of preaching in Galilee, Jesus graciously blessed, cured, and cared for the needs of countless people.

• Jesus restored sight to the blind, made the lame walk, cleansed lepers, opened the ears of the deaf, and raised the dead to life…He multiplied a few loaves of bread and a few fish and fed five thousand people, not including women and children (Mt 11:5; 14:21).
• Jesus trusted Judas and appointed him as treasurer who would be in charge of the Apostles’ finances (Jn 13:29).
• Jesus showed His tender care for the physical and material needs of His disciples: “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while” (Mk 6:31).
• He entrusted Peter with the highest authority, with the power to absolve the sins of future Christians: “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Mt 16:19).

Despite Jesus’ loving care of others, when He was arrested by the soldiers…
