Đọc trình thuật Đức Giêsu chịu cám dỗ tôi thấy hai thánh sử Mát-thêu và Lu-ca đều nói rằng, Satan đã dùng miếng ăn như là món vũ khí đầu tiên để tấn công Chúa Giêsu, và đây chính là câu hỏi mà tôi muốn bạn cùng với tôi suy nghĩ trong Chúa Nhật đầu tiên của mùa chay thánh này: “Tại sao ma quỷ lại dùng miếng ăn để cám dỗ Chúa Giêsu như vậy?” Theo tôi, ma quỷ dùng miếng ăn để cám dỗ Chúa Giêsu, là bởi vì Satan biết rất rõ mọi tội lỗi ở trên cuộc đời này đều sinh ra từ miếng ăn mà ra.
- Vì miếng ăn, tổ tông loài người ta phạm tội bất tuân mệnh lệnh của Thiên Chúa. “Người đàn Ngài cho ở với con, đã cho con trái cây ấy, nên con ăn … Con rắn đã lừa dối con, nên con ăn” (St 3:1, 13).
- Vì Ê-xau mê ăn bánh và bát cháo đậu của Gia-cóp nên bán quyền trưởng nam, sau này tức giận đi lùng giết em (St 25:34).
- Vì miếng ăn cho nên dân Do Thái đã phạm tội than trách, càm ràm và phản nghịch cùng Đức Chúa: “Phải chi chúng tôi chết bởi tay ĐỨC CHÚA trên đất Ai-cập, khi còn ngồi bên nồi thịt và ăn bánh thoả thuê. Nhưng không, các ông lại đưa chúng tôi ra khỏi đó mà vào sa mạc này, để bắt chúng tôi phải chết đói cả lũ ở đây! ” (Xh 16:3).
Ngày xưa sao thì ngày nay cũng thế! Báo chí, truyền hình, internet, chuyện trong nhà ngoài phố … đưa tin, trong thời đại chúng ta đang sống đây, không ít người đã đánh mất lương tri, tán tận lương tâm, hạ thấp nhân phẩm của mình và của người khác, thậm chí có kẻ bán cả linh hồn cho ma quỷ cũng chỉ vì miếng ăn mà thôi!
Reading the narrative of Jesus’ temptation, I come to realize that both Gospels of Matthew and Luke ascertained, Satan uses food as the inital weapon to attack Jesus, and thus, it is the question that I would like us to ponder and reflect upon this first Sunday of Lent: “Why would Satan take advantage of food to entice Jesus?” In my opinion, Satan uses food to tempt Jesus, because Satan knows very well all sins inhibited from this world derived from hunger for food. For instance:
- For hunger of food, the first man sinfully disobeyed God ” The woman whom you put here with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, so I ate it…the snake tricked me, so I ate it …” (Gn 3:1-13).
- For the reason that Esau ate some bread and the lentil soup that Jacob offered and in turn he sold the right of firstborn to Jacob, later on he got angry and found a way to kill his brother” (Gn 25:34).
- Because of the food that they craved, the Israelites sinned against the Lord: “If only we had died at the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt, as we sat by our kettles of meat and ate our fill of bread! But you have led us into this wilderness to make this whole assembly die of famine!” (Ex 16:3)
As in the past and present moment, magazines, television, internet, telltale…give an account that, in this day and age, many people have lost the principles of morality, intergrity, belittle their own dignity and that of others, worse yet, there are people who even sell their souls to devil for a piece of food!
